Production Update #2

On March 1st, my group was able to film all the scenes we had left to shoot for our video. This was a very busy day for my group. We started filming our scenes shortly before noon. We worked on our scenes until the sun started to set. However, before all of this started, Angeline came up with a plan to figure out what scenes we would be filming and who would be coming to the scene. The first scene we had to film only needed two people. The actor who would be playing the role of Abel, named Damian, and Angeline met to film our scenes. We went to a local church to film our scene where the eulogy is revealed. Angeline had called the church before we went to ask for permission to film our scene at their church. This scene is important because it is the only scene where we are actually using audio. The other scenes are silent with a voiceover. They had to film this scene multiple times to ensure that we had gotten a good one before moving on to the next scene.

After they finished filming the scenes at the church, we proceeded to a cemetery where they were supposed to film two other scenes. Paola, who is a member of our team, and her younger brother Marco were already waiting for them at the cemetery. Marco is supposed to play the role of Abel's son in our movie. We decided to take a very short time filming these scenes at the cemetery. We only managed to take one shot of each scene. The gravestone in this scene was that of a family member of one of our team members who had passed away, and we decided to use it to represent Cheryl.

After we finished filming these scenes at the cemetery, we proceeded to our last location, my house, where we were supposed to film some scenes for our movie. This is where we spent most of our time since we had most of our scenes left to be filmed. Before we proceeded to film our scenes, we looked over our schedule once again to know which scenes we were supposed to film next.

The first scene that we filmed at the house was the scene where the family was playing checkers. We chose to film this scene first because we also had Marco in this scene, and we wanted to get all of his scenes done early so that he wouldn’t have to wait all day for just a few lines. I adjusted the lighting in the house for this scene so that the scene looked softer and cozier. I wanted the scene to be soft and cozy so that it looked like the family was just spending time together. The scene was just a simple scene where the actors played a game of checkers at the table. The checkerboard is an important prop for this scene because it was used in an earlier scene in the movie when the couple was first together. It symbolizes that although a lot has passed since then, the couple still enjoys doing the same things, but now with a child by their side.

Once Marco had done his scenes and left the set, we went on to filming the illness scene. This scene had to be done with the character of Cheryl fainting, so it was one of the trickier scenes to film. I had to teach Angeline how to fall so that it would look realistic but also be safe. I also had to ensure that Damian’s reaction to my fainting would look realistic so that he would catch me without him seeming to have expected me to fall.

The final scene we had to film was a series of outdoor scenes. The camera was positioned so that it would be Abel’s point of view as he watches Cheryl have a moment of joy. We had to play scenes such as playing frisbee with my dogs and spending time near my bull. The idea was to have it look like Abel was just witnessing a moment of joy in everyday life.

Scene 4 - Raw Footage

Next, we then moved on to the pregnancy and birth sequence. For the pregnancy reveal scene, we opted to choose a baby onesie as a way for Cheryl to reveal the news of her pregnancy to Abel. This ensured that we had a simple scene while at the same time making it relevant. I proposed that Cheryl hide behind the refrigerator before revealing to Abel the news of her pregnancy. This ensured that we had a fun scene for Abel's reaction. This scene was done a number of times for us to have a good reaction from Abel. The following scenes were then based on how we would be able to have a transition of time in the scene. In order for us to have a smooth transition effect, we ensured that the actors remained in their positions in the kitchen as we took different stages of the scene. Even though it is not entirely possible, it ensured that we had a transition for us to be able to show how the relationship between the two individuals would develop as they are about to become parents.

Once we had done that, we went outside to shoot the picnic date scene. At this point, Paola had already set up the props for the picnic scene as well as the proposal scene. Damian and Angeline sat down on the picnic blanket with the same checkerboard we had used for the first scene. We had to shoot a scene showing the interaction between the characters to demonstrate how they spend time together and have each other’s company. The idea behind this scene was to have a natural and happy moment between the characters.

Just after the picnic scene, we had to shoot the proposal scene. The first thing to point out about this scene is the initial scene showing the ring box. The idea was to have this scene match another scene that had been shot earlier in the film with a matching transition. Even though it did not match as well as we had originally planned, it is a great visual scene that leads into the proposal scene.

The last scene that we filmed that day was the wedding scene. While Damian and Angeline were putting on their attire for the scene, Paola was putting on the decorations for our scene, which transformed the proposal scene into a mini-wedding scene, as both scenes were supposed to be in the same location. I was also putting my suit on for the scene, because I was the wedding officiant. Before we started filming our scene, we rehearsed our scene, particularly the last part where Abel dips Cheryl after our wedding scene. Then, we filmed our scene a few times, as we wanted a great selection for editing our scene.

It was definately one of the most enjoyable scenes for us to film. It was great as it was our last scene for the day, as well as our last scene for our project, and it was a great feeling as we had already finished filming our scene, and it was great timing as the sun was about to set, providing a beautiful background for our scene.

In terms of the editing stage, we have decided that we will not be including one of our scenes that involves animals outside in our final product, due to our time constraint. We are thinking of showing more of the scenes that help us reveal information about our couple and their relationship. We did not think that the scene was effectively showing that we were showing the scene from Abel’s point of view, since each scene was only a few seconds long. Therefore, we have decided that we will not be including this scene in our final product.
