Audiences and Institutions: Final Cut

On earlier blog posts, I talked about how wide-ranging the drama genre is. Therefore, it is possible for the target audience of a drama movie to vary significantly. If we were to be general, it is safe to say that the target audience of a drama movie could be adults aged between 18 and 40 years. However, it is worth noting that this age group could vary depending on the kind of drama movie. For instance, in a teen drama movie, the target group could be even younger. If we were to examine a drama movie like the one I intend to create, which involves grief and family, it is safe to say that the target group could be narrowed down. The movie could be classified as having a highly female-targeted demographic. This is because women tend to be drawn to emotional dramas that involve character development. The movie could be watched by women aged between 25 and 54 years. This is because, at this stage of life, one is likely to undergo significant life changes, including grief or family issues. The movie could also be watched by those who seek emotional release. They could also be empathetic viewers.

For my group's film, the target audience would be quite similar to the target audience for drama movies. The women aged between 18 and 40 years. I am hoping that my target audience will be emotional and empathetic towards the characters in the film. I do not think there are a lot of differences between the target audience for the film and my target audience. The only difference is that I will target a slightly younger audience. This is due to the fact that both my research and my experience tell me that this audience will definitely love the film. I think this is a good target audience for the success of my film. This is because they are the ones actively involved in social media. This audience will help my film gain popularity through social media. When people share information about a film on social media, it will help the film gain popularity even without the costs involved in advertising the film. This is especially true for my film since it will be made on a low budget with little to no room for advertising costs.

There are various ways of marketing drama films. Just like any other film, drama films are usually promoted in the usual ways, for example, through the use of trailers and advertisements. Additionally, the trailers and posters may be placed in public places such as malls or theaters. These are usually put in place months before the film is due for release in order to create the necessary hype and eagerness for the film. For bigger productions with bigger budgets, the actors and directors may embark on a press tour. This is significant in creating awareness for the film and for the audience to learn more about the film and the process of filmmaking. By seeing the work that has gone into the film, the audience will be more inclined to watch the film.

In recent times, social media engagement and influencer marketing have proven to be very important marketing strategies. This form of marketing is used extensively for various industries. It can be used for film promotion. Influencers can be paid to share videos about their experiences going to the premiere of a movie. This may encourage their fans to do the same. Actors can also share promotional materials about their movies on their social media accounts. If promotional materials about a movie are shared on social media, where people check their accounts every day, it can gain a lot of attention.

For my movie, social media marketing would be the most feasible option. This is because it would not cost a lot to share materials on social media. Materials like posters and trailers can be shared for free. According to studies, 72 percent of adults in the United States use at least one form of social media every day. My target audience ranges from 18 to 40 years old. This demographic group is one of the most active online. Therefore, social media promotion would not only be cost-effective but also would be an effective way to reach my target audience.

It would also be appropriate to use local promotion. The cost of advertising within a local population can be minimal. The cost may be limited to the cost of creating posters or flyers. The posters can be placed in various bulletin boards within the local area. The posters can be placed within school zones or within the local community. The film could be promoted within the local area by hosting a small premiere of the film. The premiere could be attended by friends, family, and the local community. The premiere could be a watch party. The watch party would be an effective way to promote the film because it would encourage word-of-mouth marketing. Research indicates that 20 to 50 percent of moviegoers decide what movie to see based on word of mouth. This implies that one positive viewing experience would be followed by many positive viewing experiences. With a limited budget, focusing on strong first impressions and personal recommendations would be a smart and effective strategy.
