Production, Distribution, and Exhibition

 Production

For my final project, I intend to produce a small-scale independent movie. Since a few other friends and I are going to finance it ourselves, it qualifies to be termed independent. One of my main goals for this movie would be to play one of the main roles in it. This is because I have always been passionate about acting and would like to challenge myself in this regard. The fact that I would be part of the main actors and at the same time be part of the coordinating team would be important in ensuring that my role is represented in the best manner and in line with the overall vision of the movie.

Since it would be a small-scale movie, my friends and I would have to take up other roles in the movie in addition to financing it. One of the areas that I believe I would be effective in would be in terms of creativity and artistry. Since I am artistic and also a visual learner, I believe I would be effective in terms of creating the storyboards and editing the movie.

Distribution

Since the film is small-scale and independent, the distributor of the film will simply be the platform that we choose to upload the film to. The most accessible option for us will be YouTube, as it is free for use. By uploading the film on YouTube, we will have the opportunity to earn money depending on the number of views the film gets. This type of film distribution can be considered a platform release, as the film will be released on the platform rather than in theaters. 

In addition, my friends and I will also handle the film's promotion. We can promote the film by letting all the people we know know about the film. We can also let all the people we know let others know about the film. By promoting the film ourselves, we will avoid the expenses that the film industry normally faces. These expenses include the expenses of releasing the film in theaters or hiring people for marketing. By promoting the film ourselves, the film will not only be affordable but will also have the opportunity of reaching a large number of people.

Exhibition

Our film will be released publicly on YouTube, and it will reach a wide audience. However, since we are not prominent creators, we will not have a wide reach to begin with. The success of our film will depend on how many views, how long people watch, and how they interact, like, share, and comment on the video. This will determine how much money we will make from YouTube. The money will be split equally among the members of the group since we all contributed to the film’s creation.

As we are only filming one scene, we have the potential to earn more from another avenue since we will have the story to create a novel out of. While this will take time, it will also be cheaper than making a film. The story will be published in novel form, and this will help us reach a wider audience and be more creative in this way.

Going through her clothes and throwing a bunch into a trash bag for donation. Preproduction Plan

We will record our movie using an iPhone. This is advantageous because we will probably use the same device to record all our scenes. This way, we do not have to worry about the video changing if we decide to share our files. Our movie will need various props and costumes. Since our movie is a drama based on real-life incidents, it is easy for us to acquire the majority of the props. The movie will commence with a montage showing the progression of our love story. It will include scenes like walking in school corridors while wearing normal clothing. There are only three costumes that we will need in our movie. They include a wedding dress, a graduation gown, and formal clothing. While planning our movie, we made sure that we used costumes that were not only realistic but also easy to acquire.  Representation and Responsibility: Reflecting on My Role as a Filmmaker          As a filmmaker , I have a certain responsibility regarding the portrayal of people and communities on film. Cinema is not only a source of enjoyment for the masses. Cinema is a form of storytelling that can craft the perceptions and identities of the audiences that watch the films. This ability to craft certain perceptions has made me realize the responsibility that comes with the production of this form of media.           What I do believe is that there is a certain responsibility that filmmakers have to accurately and respectfully represent groups of people. Of course, a film can't represent a group of people, but it is a choice that filmmakers make on what kind of stories are told and from what point of view.
