Photography Project

Photo prompt: You committed a serious crime on the school grounds and have been called into the principal's office for questioning. You're terrified of getting in trouble.

We want to convey a sense of horror, power, and ominence. Hiding the principal's expression but using his powerful stance and scared child to still convey the feeling of horror and power. To add to the intention, we wanted either another administrator or even our lovely on-campus police, Officer Emerson. I, the student in trouble, would have a worried and hidden look, not wanting to make direct eye contact with either personnel, and Officer Emerson hovering over me. With a couple of purposefully and unintentionally placed props and some post-photo editing, I believe we successfully conveyed this idea.

 Design

  • Lighting

Darker lighting, blue/black hues, colder, not so warm to convey that dark, cold feeling.

  • Setting

Towards the beginning of the sit-down lecture, the 'partner in crime' hovering outside the door frame, and the room is filled with tension.

  • Costumes, hairstyles, makeup

no makeup, hoodies, new age teen look/comfort look.

  • Props and decor

The Principal Feldman's name plate on the desk, open computer, cord phone, (unintentional, mug of students' tears)

Composition

  • Depth of composition (flat or deep)

We wanted our photo to have a deep composition with our fore ground, middle ground, and background, having a different aspect that ties the entire photo together.

  • Point of view

We chose an over the shoulder point of view, looking at the main subject as if we are the principal, then putting the partner in crime in the background almost blurred out.

  • Implied distance from the subject (close-up, medium shot, long shot)

We created more of an open medium shot

  • Offscreen space

We didn't have any offscreen space.

  • Blocking
Our blocking was simple, our principal had to do is sit with 'power' as we shot above his shoulder, I sat in the chair ready to be lectured, the officer stood above and to the side of me to show power and disappointment, and finally my partner in crime standing nervously outside the door peaking in through the window.
